Hair Loss Has A Cause, And It Is Not Always Genetic

What The FDA Said About Topical Finasteride
In April 2025 the FDA alerted health care providers, compounders, and consumers to potential serious risks associated with compounded topical finasteride products, noting there is no FDA-approved topical formulation of finasteride and that the agency was aware of telemedicine platforms marketing them. The alert followed 32 adverse event reports filed between 2019 and 2024, including erectile dysfunction, depression, brain fog, and decreased libido, with most reporting symptoms that persisted after the product was discontinued. Some consumers said they had been told there was no such risk because the product goes on the skin rather than being swallowed. A prescription written by a provider who examined you, disclosed the risks, and will see you again is a different transaction.
