IV Therapy Myers Cocktail
Provider evaluation · Appropriate testing · Ongoing monitoring
It Has A Name, A History, And An Evidence Base Worth Describing Accurately
Dr John Myers, a Baltimore physician, developed an intravenous nutrient formulation in the 1960s and 1970s for patients with fatigue, migraines, asthma and fibromyalgia. He kept no detailed records of his formulations. After his death in 1984, Dr Alan Gaby took on many of his patients, reconstructed the formula from patient records and interviews, and standardized it. What clinics offer today as a Myers cocktail is Gaby's version, and it varies somewhat between practices. The core formulation is magnesium, calcium gluconate, B-complex vitamins, B12 and vitamin C in a sterile saline base. Gaby published a review in 2002 documenting observational data across more than 15,000 infusions, and he noted himself that the evidence was largely observational rather than derived from large controlled trials. The strongest controlled study is a 2009 Yale trial by Ali and colleagues, which gave 34 fibromyalgia patients eight weekly infusions against placebo. Both groups improved. There were no significant differences between them on the primary outcomes. The treatment was well tolerated. We state that plainly because you should know it before you book. What T Clinics USA offers at our Naples, Fort Myers, and Coral Springs clinics is a named formulation, disclosed composition, and a provider who orders it after evaluating you. Results vary by individual.
